Zankel to welcome Omega Trio

The Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College will host a concert by Omega Trio at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

The newly formed Omega Trio brings the talents of Skidmore's own Michael Emery, senior artist-in-residence in violin, together with composer/pianist Matthew Quayle and cellist Jameson Platte. The trio explores traditional and adventurous repertoire with insight, virtuosity, and a rich tonal palette, imbuing with passion their collective experience as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral leaders.

Cellist Jameson Platte is both a performer and a teacher. He is currently a member of the critically acclaimed Axis Quintet, the Conservatory Quartet, Duo 92 with pianist/composer Matthew Quayle, principal cellist of the Glens Falls Symphony, principal of the Orchestra of Northern New York and assistant principal of the Allentown Symphony. Platte works e xtensively as a clinician, guest conductor, and cello coach, performs as a soloist and maintains a large private studio.

Matthew Quayle has established a multifaceted career as a composer and pianist in a wide range of styles and genres, from concert orchestral works to musical theater comedy.He frequently performs as a piano soloist and chamber musician. Recent collaborations have included recitals with clarinetist Deborah Andrus, cellist Jameson Platte, and flutist Elizabeth Ransom. A native of Waterville, N.Y., Quayle is currently an adjunct professor in theory at New York University's Graduate School of Arts and Science, where he earned a Ph.D. in composition and theory.

Michael Emery, violinist, divides his musical career between performance in the United States and Europe, and teaching at Skidmore College. He is concertmaster and frequent soloist with the Santa Monica Symphony, and performs in the same capacity with the Glens Falls, Schenectady, Catskill and Utica symphonies. He is also the artistic director of the Bethesda Music Concert Series in Saratoga Springs. As a senior artist-in-residence at Skidmore, Emery directs the expanding string department, working with talented students on solo, chamber music, and orchestral repertoire.
