NCAA tournament bids on the line for Skidmore teams
Skidmore's field hockey, women's soccer, and volleyball teams will compete for Liberty
League championships this weekend with automatic NCAA Division III tournament berths
available in field hockey and soccer.
Field hockey, with a 17-1 record, will put its 28-game home win streak on the line
Saturday when the Thoroughbreds host William Smith at 1 p.m. Skidmore, ranked fifth
nationally, has won four straight Liberty League titles. Live stats will be available
here.
The women's soccer team travels to second-ranked William Smith College for its championship
contest at 1 p.m. Saturday. The team is 13-5 and playing in the Liberty League championship
match for the second time in program history. Skidmore tied the Herons 0-0 in 2008
with William Smith advancing on penalty kicks. Live stats will be available here.
The Liberty League volleyball tournament is a four-team format for the first time
in league history. Clarkson is hosting the event and will play Vassar in one Friday
semifinal at 5 p.m. Skidmore and St. Lawrence play at 7:30. The winners will play
for the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday. Even though there is not an automatic NCAA
qualifier the Thoroughbreds have a good shot at making the tournament with a 25-8
record and No. four ranking in the New York region.
