Brunswick, by Nate Simms, to debut at Spectrum

Most Skidmore people know that Nate Simms is the head coach of the men's tennis team. Fewer may know that Simms is also a documentary filmmaker and that his film Brunswick will premier at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Spectrum in Albany.

The movie tells the story of a 90-year-old Brunswick farmer, small-town politics, and residential development. Click here to read more about the film; for advance ticket information, click here.

There also will be a soundtrack release party at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Caff Lena. Matthew Carefully will perform his songs from the movie soundtrack with a small group of musicians. Opening the show will be Skidmore folk grass band Bailiwick.

After spending several years as a still photographer, Simms became involved in documentary filmmaking. With film, he found a new medium for his ongoing interests in natural landscapes and land conservation. Simms continues to focus particularly on land use issues in Rensselaer County. A graduate of Middlebury College, Simms has lived in New York's Capital District for most of his life.
