Strong showing for swimming and diving at league championship

Senior Doug Pilawa (Chardon, Ohio) was named Liberty League Co-Diver of the Year and junior Jesse Adler (Chappaqua, N.Y.) set four school records at the Liberty League championships this past weekend at RPI. Pilawa won the 3-meter dive and finished second in the 1-meter, while Adler set new school records in the 200 back, 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 back, all top-six finishes. On the women's side, freshman Catherine King (Wellesley, Mass.) took fourth in the 50 free and junior Carrie Koch (Wellesley, Mass.) finished sixth in the 500 free. Both teams wrapped up their 2011 schedule and will return to the pool Jan. 16 at Oneonta. 

Men's basketball went 1-1 this past week, suffering the team's first loss of the season at William Paterson. On Wednesday, Skidmore earned a 62-52 win over Oneonta behind 15 points and eight rebounds from senior Brian Lowry (West Hartford, Conn.). On Saturday at William Paterson, senior Gerard O'Shea (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) had 12 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Lowry led the team with 16 points. The Thoroughbreds are 3-1 on the season and travel to Castleton for a 7 p.m. tip Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Ice hockey went 1-1 this past weekend, posting a big win over St. Michael's before falling at No. 1 Norwich. In the 7-3 St. Michael's contest, senior Tyler Doremus (Aspen, Colo.) and junior Julian Malakorn (Warwick, R.I.) recorded a goal and an assist each and senior Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J.) made 31 saves in goal. The Thoroughbreds are 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the ECAC East; they resume play Saturday, Dec. 31, at Middlebury. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
