Boyers earns praise for AGNI essay

December 20, 2011

Robert Boyers, professor of English, has received a Sidney Award for his essay "A Beauty," which appears in AGNI, No. 74, October 2011, published by Boston University.

New York Times columnist David Brooks annually determines that a select number of magazine essays in the year deserve his Sidney Award. Said Brooks in a 2009 column about this honor, "In an age of zipless, electronic media, the idea is to celebrate (and provide online links to) long-form articles that have narrative drive and social impact." The 2011 Sidney Award-winners (including the Boyers) were announced in his Dec. 20, 2011, column. Wrote Brooks, "Anybody interested in being a better person will click the links to these essays, and read attentively." Click here to read the 2011 column by Brooks.

Boyers, a Skidmore faculty member since 1969, also is editor of Salmagundi, the literary journal published by the College, and serves as director of the New York State Summer Writers Institute.
