Annual Student Art Exhibition opens Feb. 2

The annual Skidmore Student Exhibition, sponsored by the college's Studio Art Department, will be on exhibit in the Schick Art Gallery from Thursday, Feb. 2, through Sunday, March 4, 2012. An opening reception will take place in the Schick from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 2. One of the highlights of the Schick calendar and the community at large, the Student Exhibition invariably celebrates the talent, creativity, and imagination of Skidmore students. 

Guest juror for this year's show is Deborah Zlotsky, artist and associate professor of art at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. Zlotsky is represented by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York City, and was featured in a solo exhibition there last October. Zlotsky's work is familiar to the region's art lovers. In 2006 at Skidmore's Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, she was a featured artist in "Twice Drawn," a contemporary drawing exhibition curated by the Tang's Ian Berry. Zlotsky recently had solo exhibitions at the Lake George Arts Project and the Arts Center of the Capital Region, and her work has been included in group shows at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica, Hartwick College in Oneonta, and Albany International Airport. She holds a B.A. degree in art history from Yale University and an M.F.A. degree in painting and drawing from the University of Connecticut.  

The juror selects the exhibition from work completed by Skidmore students in the areas ofceramics, graphic design, drawing and painting, electronic media, fiber arts, metals, photography, printmaking, installation, and sculpture during 2011.From an average of more than 250 entries, the juror typically chooses one-third to one-quarter for exhibit, and selects the most outstanding work for special awards. Prizes and gift certificates totaling more than $1,000 are fundedannuallythrough donations made by friends of the gallery, campus organizations, and Saratoga Springs businesses. Prize winners will be announced at the opening reception.

The Skidmore Student Exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. For complete information and exhibition updates, click here.
