Don't miss Homerathon! 2012

February 3, 2012

Missing something epic in your life? Then mark your calendar and plan to attend Homerathon! 2012 – a marathon reading of the poetry of Homer, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the Intercultural Center. Skidmore's Classics Department is sponsor of the event.

This year's event will feature a reading of the Odyssey, courtesy of the students of CC 200 (Classical World). Refreshments will be served. All members of the Skidmore community — students, faculty, and staff —are invited to attend and to participate in the annual celebration of all that is Homer and Homeric poetry.

For at least a decade, the Classics Department has hosted Homerathon!, a multi-disciplinary celebration of the life, works, and legacy of Homer, the foremost poet of the classical world.  As the name implies, it is a marathon evening of readings, performances, and anything (everything?) else. Organizers point out that Homer is responsible for "putting the 'epic' in poetry since 750 BCE." Don't miss this entertaining academic event!
