Spring teams return victorious in vacation contests

Women's lacrosse improved to 3-0 with a pair of wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Fredonia in West Palm Beach, Fla., during spring break week, March 10-18. In a 15-9 decision over CMS, senior Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) finished with three goals and an assist, while sophomore Robin Fetterolf (Huntington, N.Y.) had three goals and senior Leslie Stebbins (Wilton, Conn.) added two goals and a team-high five ground balls. Against Fredonia, senior goalie Rachel Klein (Far Hills, N.J.) made 13 saves in goal as Madden had a game-high four goals and Fetterolf and sophomore Summer Segalas (Stamford, Conn.) had three goals apiece. Skidmore opens its home schedule at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, against No. 8 Middlebury.
Baseball wrapped up its spring trip with a 6-2 overall record after posting a 3-2 record this past week. Juniors Leejay Pollacchi (Porter Corners, N.Y.) and Geoff Green (Underhill, Vt.) continued their hot starts at the plate as the pair combined to drive in 10 runs in the five games. On the mound, senior Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.), sophomore Isaac Forman (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Nick Petrella (West Sayville, N.Y.) all picked up wins during the week. The Thoroughbreds open league play this Saturday, March 24, when they host Rochester for a doubleheader that starts at 1:30 p.m.
Women's tennis went 1-1, suffering its first loss of the season to Division II Wayne State before cruising to a 9-0 win over Stevens in Orlando, Fla. In the 5-4 loss to Wayne State, the number- one doubles team of junior Nataly Mendoza (San Francisco, Calif.) and sophomore Lee Ford (Newton, Mass.) earned an 8-5 win, while sophomore Robyn Baird (Potomac, Md.) and freshman Alex Smith (Beverly Hills, Calif.) earned wins in singles action. Against Stevens, Skidmore dominated as Mendoza, Ford, Smith, senior Tory Engros (Bronxville, N.Y.) and sophomore Melissa Hirsch (Alamo, Calif.) all won in doubles. The Thoroughbreds return to action Saturday, March 31, when they host Liberty League rival Vassar.
Men's lacrosse posted a 1-1 record on the week, falling to No. 10 Dickinson before dominating Clark in its home opener last Saturday. Against Dickinson, junior Mike Perlow (Briarcliff, N.Y.) and sophomore Richie Davis (Edgewater, Md.) accounted for the offense. In the 17-9 decision over Clark, junior Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored five goals, while Perlow added three goals and junior Bryan Connolly (Babylon, N.Y.) finished with two goals and three assists. Skidmore is 3-3 overall and travels to Williams College Tuesday, March 20, for a 6 p.m. faceoff.
Men's tennis went 1-3 this week, upsetting No. 11 Trinity (TX) before falling to No. 2 Emory, No. 10 Washington University at St. Louis, and No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer. Against Trinity, the Thoroughbreds maintained a balanced attack, winning at numbers one and three doubles before sophomore Danny Knight (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and freshmen Miles Ransom (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Alec Hoblitzell (Baltimore, Md.) won at singles. Against WUSL, sophomore Oliver Loutsenko (Bellmore, N.Y.) was a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 winner at number-one singles over Adam Putterman, who is ranked second nationally. The Thoroughbreds are 5-3 overall and resume play Sunday, March 25, when they host Bard College.
Golf won the Campeonato Internacional de Skidmore College in the Dominican Republic on Thursday. Junior Anthony DiLisio (Swampscott, Mass.) won the event, finishing with a 74-71-145 to beat senior Peter Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Garrett Coglan (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) by one stroke. Skidmore returns to action Saturday, March 31, at the McDaniel Spring Invitational.
Softball closed out the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. with a 3-4 record this past week. Senior Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) tossed a five-inning no-hitter in a 12-0 shutout of Daniel Webster on Monday. Against Centenary, freshman Katie Amo (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) drove in the game-winning run to give the Thoroughbreds a 6-5 walk-off win. The Thoroughbreds are 5-7 overall and host Cazenovia Friday, March 23, in their home opener. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
