Post-season play ahead for spring athletes

Golf won its fifth straight Liberty League Championship after defeating RPI in Sunday's match play championship. Skidmore defeated Clarkson 3-0 on day one and came back on Sunday to beat RPI by the same score. Junior John McCarthy (East Greenwich, R.I.) and senior Peter Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) were double winners for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 26 th straight season. 

Men's tennis cruised to its second straight Liberty League title, picking up wins over Bard, RPI, and Vassar. The Thoroughbreds defeated Bard and RPI 5-0 before dropping Vassar 5-1 in the championship match. The number-one doubles team of sophomore Jimmy Sherpa (West Vancouver, B.C.) and freshman Alec Hoblitzell (Baltimore, Md.) were unbeaten, while sophomores Oliver Loutsenko (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Danny Knight (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) went 4-0 each on the weekend. No. 22 Skidmore looks to receive a bid to the NCAA tournament for the fifth straight season.

Women's tennis is the top seed in this weekend's Liberty League tournament at Vassar. The Thoroughbreds hope to take their second straight league title behind sophomore Melissa Hirsch (Alamo, Calif.) and the number-one doubles team of junior Nataly Mendoza (San Francisco, Calif.) and sophomore Lee Ford (Newton, Mass.).

Baseball wraps up its regular season with a home and home four-game series against Union this weekend. Skidmore has clinched a berth in the Liberty League tournament and can earn the top seed with a strong weekend against the Dutchmen. 

Riding competes in the IHSA national championship in Raleigh, N.C. this week. The Thoroughbreds hope to bring home their seventh national title, while four riders are competing in individual events including senior Kelly Campbell (Cohoes, N.Y.), who is competing for the Cacchione Cup, which is awarded to the nation's top rider. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
