Short week yields success for winter teams

Men's basketball opened its home schedule with a dominating 76-43 win over Southern Vermont. Sophomore Connor Merrill (Panton, Vt.) led the way with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks as 12 different players scored for Skidmore. Freshman Tanner Brooks (Pikesville, Md.) added 10 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while classmate Aldin Medunjanin (New York, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points, seven assists, and five rebounds. The Thoroughbreds are 2-1 and host Castleton at 7 tonight (Monday, Nov. 26).

 Ice hockey went 1-0-1 to earn a third-place finish at the Skidmore Invitational this past weekend. Senior Zack Menard (Burlington, Mass.) earned All-Tournament honors after posting two goals and two assists, including the game-winner in Sunday's 3-2 win over Morrisville. Junior Brad Schuler (Delran, N.J.) contributed two goals and two assists, and classmate Tony Giacin (St. Louis, Mo.) added a goal and four assists. The Thoroughbreds improved to 4-2-2 and host No. 2 Norwich this at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

Women's basketball secured its first victory of the season, a 56-54 win at Potsdam on Monday.Freshman Ella Scheuerell (Newton, Mass.) capped off her game-high 16 points with a pair of free throws with one second remaining to seal the victory. SeniorLogan Frederick (Arlington, Va.) tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and sophomore Molly McLaughlin(Westwood, Mass.) added nine points. Skidmore is 1-2 on the year and hosts Albany College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
