Almost, Maine is first theater production of 2012-13

Skidmore's Department of Theater will stage its first black box production of the fall this month, John Cariani's ALMOST, MAINE, directed by Lary Opitz. Performances are Friday through Sunday, Oct. 19-21 and 25-28. All shows are in the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater at 8 p.m., except for Sunday, when matinees begin at 2 p.m.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night's dream.

According to Director Opitz, "Love is messy, but we all need it. ALMOST, MAINE is a fable about the joys and tribulations of love – what it means to win, to keep and to lose love. Reality and magic combine to produce an enchanting and whimsical tale, and I hope that our audiences will feel free to laugh and cry with us."

Seating is very limited; reservations are required. Call the Skidmore Theater Box Office at (518) 580-5439 or email Tickets are $12 general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens. For group sales, email Kathy Mendenhall at (518) 580-5431 or

Skidmore's Theater Department is a pre-professional program that offers students the opportunity to pursue the serious study of the theater arts within a liberal arts setting. Courses afford training in the basic demands of the discipline—physical and vocal control, technique in acting and directing, technical and design skills—as well as the chance for advanced study, practical production experience, study abroad, and off-campus internships.
