Feryaz Ocakli, assistant professor of government and international affairs, will provide an update on the current situation in Syria and Egypt at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Intercultural Center.

Ocakli, just back from the Middle East, will not only share his views on the grave situation in both countries and their environs, but also share his thoughts on options for the U.S., and field questions on the situation.

A specialist on international relations with a focus on the Middle East, Ocakli is a graduate of Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, and Brown University. He teaches courses on comparative and international politics and nationalism and politics in the Middle East.

He is the author of “The Kurdish Closing” in Foreign Policy in Focus (Dec. 29, 2009), and has recently given presentations at the New England Political Science Association annual meeting and the Association for the Study of Nationalities Convention (both last spring), as well as the Midwest Political Science Association annual conference and the American Political Science Association annual meeting.
