Victorian Streetwalk to light up downtown
Downtown Saratoga Springs will come alive with seasonal cheer as the city hosts its 28th annual Victorian Streetwalk on Thursday, Dec. 4, 6 –10 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association to thank area residents for their year-round support of local businesses.
Santa arrives at the Victorian
Streetwalk.
The public is invited to enjoy an old fashioned "Christmas as it used to be" street party, with strolling musicians, carolers, people in Victorian garb, and more. Most businesses will stay open until 10 p.m. and will hold open houses with refreshments.
There will over 40 sites with free entertainment, including performances by all six of Skidmore’s a cappella groups. The evening’s lineup will offer everything from fiddlers, choral singers, and ballet dancers to magic shows and live reindeer. The evening will include the Festival of Trees at the City Center, an indoor winter wonderland with more that 250 uniquely decorated trees, wreathes, and centerpieces.
The streetwalk will officially begin at 6 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony on Broadway, in front of Putnam Market. The ceremony will open with caroling by Girl Scouts, and following the tree lighting Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive with the elves. Children can visit with Santa throughout the evening in his cottage on location.
Special Victorian Streetwalk postal cancellations will be available at the Broadway Post Office from 5 to 9 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring their stamped holiday card envelopes and get them processed with the special complimentary cancellation.
