Men's soccer extends shutout streak

Liberty League wins for men’s soccer, women’s tennis, men’s tennis, and field hockey highlighted another successful Skidmore fall sports week for the Thoroughbreds. Volleyball had several strong individual showings in its three matches and women’s soccer suffered setbacks against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents.

MEN’S SOCCER (7-2, 3-0 Liberty League)

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

Skidmore 2, RIT 0

Skidmore 1, Hobart 0 (OT)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The team extended its shutout streak to 383:08 with a pair of Liberty League clean sheets, climbing atop the conference standings.
  • Tim Sullivan ’16 scored back-to-back game-winning goals, opening the scoring against RIT and potting the overtime winner against Hobart.
  • Ben Poole ’19 tallied his first collegiate goal against the Tigers on Ben Caples’ ’19 team-leading fifth assist of the season.
  • Eli Kisselbach ’16 stopped two shots against the Tigers and made a season-high 10 saves against the Statesmen for his fourth and fifth shutout of the season

WOMEN’S TENNIS (4-0, 4-0 Liberty League)

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

No. 16 Skidmore 9, Bard 0

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Thoroughbreds extended their Liberty League win streak to 38 matches with a pair of 9-0 victories on Sunday.
  • The team won 96 of 98 games against Bard, dropping just one game in singles and one in doubles.
  • Erica Meno ’18, Caroline Finnegan ’18, Laura Swenson ’19 and Cheyenne Kerekes ’17 all recorded wins in singles and doubles against the Raptors.
  • Swenson and Kerekes also each picked up a pair of victories against the Tigers.
  • Michelle Fuca ’18 provided wins at number one singles and number one doubles against the RIT.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Skidmore did not drop a set in its Liberty League opener against Bard.
  • Lucas Pickering ’18 notched a pair of victories, winning 6-3, 6-1 at number one singles and teaming with Steven Koulouris ’18 for an 8-0 win at number three singles.
  • Koulouris was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number two singles.
  • With the win the Thoroughbreds extended their Liberty League win streak to 14 matches

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Dani DeGregory ’17 netted her third hat trick in four games and added an assist in the team’s 6-0 win against Union. She is currently on a four-game point streak, producing 27 points (11 G, 5 A) in that span.
  • Gabby Hyman ’18 scored the team’s lone goal against No. 4 Middlebury and tallied twice against the Dutchwomen, giving her 13 points in the last four games.
  • Becca Halter ’17 dished out a pair of assists against Union.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Caite Canfield ’19 posted three straight double-doubles. She had 14 kills and 19 digs to go along with four aces and three blocks against Plattsburgh, 14 kills and a season-high 42 digs against St. John Fisher and 11 kills and 18 digs against SUNY Poly.
  • Bailey Hutchins ’19 also had a double-double against Plattsburgh with 14 digs and 22 assists and Rachel Licata ’18 had a season-high five blocks.
  • Allie Dillon ’19 contributed 17 digs and 10 kills against SUNY Poly and Kalle Fox ’18 had a double-double of her own with 17 assists and 11 digs.
