Thoroughbreds enter last week of regular season

Skidmore’s fall sports teams are entering the final week of the regular season and the postseason is in sight for three of them. Field hockey will be the third seed in the Liberty League tournament, while men’s and women’s soccer can each lock up a playoff berth with wins this week. Volleyball closed out its league schedule over the weekend and will play its final tournament of the season when it hosts the Skidmore Invitational this weekend. 

FIELD HOCKEY (11-5, 4-2 Liberty League)

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

No. 8 Skidmore 8, Castleton 1

No.  8 Skidmore 0, Rochester 2

No. 8 Skidmore 1, No. 7 William Smith 2

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Grace Florsheim ’19 scored career-high four goals in the team’s 8-1 win against Castleton.
  • Jenn Hanks ’16 had her second consecutive two-goal game against the Spartans and Dani DeGregory ’16 added a goal and two helpers.
  • Krista Lamoreaux ’17 scored for the third straight game against Castleton, adding an assist.
  • Zoe McGuire ’18 made 11 saves against Rochester, including eight in the first half.
  • Seeley Fancher ’18 tallied her second goal of the season against William Smith.
  • The team finished third in the Liberty League standings and travels to Rochester for the conference semifinal.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach ’16 made five saves in each of the team’s two games last week.
  • RPI’s goal against Skidmore was the first against the Thoroughbreds in Liberty League play, snapping a 485:51 shutout streak.
  • The team is currently third in the Liberty League standings with two conference games remaining.

  • Emily Saliterman ’17 scored her team-leading sixth goal against St. Lawrence.
  • Deirdre Walsh ’17 tied a season-high with eight saves in the 2-1 setback.
  • The team is currently fourth in the Liberty League standings with one conference game remaining.

  • Caite Canfield ’19 had a double-double against Union with 12 kills and 10 digs. She added nine kills, five digs and two blocks against St. Lawrence and nine kills, two blocks and eight digs against RIT.
  • Allie Dillon ’19 had a team-high 11 digs and two aces in the RIT match.
  • Bailey Hutchins ’19 notched a double double against Union with 12 assists and 10 kills.
  • Marcela Familiar-Bolaños ’17 led the team with 15 digs against the Dutchwomen.
