A strong showing by Riding team highlights the week in Athletics

November 9, 2015

Riding put together a strong showing at the Morrisville State College show, highlighting the Skidmore sports week with a first-place finish. Men’s soccer and field hockey saw their Liberty League postseason runs come to an end, while swimming and diving had several impressive performances against Vassar. Ice hockey returned to action, opening conference play with a pair of road games.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emily Mandel ’16 placed first in Novice Over Fences and Novice Flat, also won High Point Rider.
  • Ursula Green ’16 won Reserve High Point rider and finished first in Open Over Fences and Open Flat.
  • Abbie Gibson ’16, Alexandra Hartman ’18 and Talia Reutter ’18 each won their respective over fence class and flat classes.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The team advanced to its second Liberty League championship game in three seasons with a 1-0 win at No. 10 Hobart in the semifinal.
  • Ben Poole ’19 scored his second game-winning goal in as many games against the Statesmen and Ben Caples ’19 recorded his team-leading eighth assist.
  • Goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach ’16 made three saves for his ninth shutout of the season, setting a program single-season record.
  • Kevin Santos ’18 tallied the game-tying goal against St. Lawrence, but the Saints scored twice in the second half to secure the 3-1 win.
  • Skidmore can still receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The tournament field will be announced at 1:30 p.m., Monday

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Goalkeeper Zoe McGuire ’18 made four saves against the Yellowjackets.
  • McGuire posted an .869 save percentage and a 1.13 goals against average, placing her third and 20th in the nation, respectively.
  • Dani DeGregory ’16 finished the season leading Division III in points per game (4.11) and assists per game (1.05) and ranking third in goals per game (1.53).

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Adam Moodie ’19 and Corey Morgan ’19 each had a goal and an assist against Saint Anselm.
  • Mac Cibelli ’17 recorded an assist in both games.
  • Connor Pelkey ’18 scored his first goal of the season against New England College.
  • Jack McDonald ’17 made 30 saves against the Pilgrims, while Ben Freiberg ’16 stopped 31 shots against the Hawks.

    ·  Harrison Shockley ’19 was a dual winner, placing first in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.
·      Teague Costello ’19 added a pair of wins, touching first in the 200-yard freestyle and combining with Charlie Bullis ’16, Joey Stagliano ’18 and Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez ’17 for first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
·      Reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week Hiro Kamei ’19 placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
·      Kevin Brito ’16 posted another strong day on the boards, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the second consecutive meet.
·      Yookee Roh ’16 led the women’s team with victories in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard freestyle.
·      Erin Donovan ’17 placed first in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing just ahead of teammate Claire Stetten ’19, who touched in third with a lifetime best performance.
