Record-breaking year for Skidmore applications
The number of students seeking to join Skidmore’s Class of 2020 has now reached nearly 9,100 — officially the largest group of applicants in College history.
The 9,091 applications, from outstanding high schools around the world, surpasses last year’s total of 8,423. And is 500 applications above the previous record of 8,569 in 2014.
Early Decision Round I students celebrate their acceptance into Skidmore's Class of 2020.
This includes the nearly 550 Early Decision applications, up from 411 in 2015.
Over the last five years, the number of applications to Skidmore has increased nearly 60 percent. Skidmore remains among the best liberal arts colleges in the nation and reached the 5th spot on a recent ranking of Upstate New York’s most selective colleges.
“We are delighted to see so many outstanding candidates interested in Skidmore, applying from all over the country, and indeed, the world,” said Mary Lou Bates, Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.
The increase in applications is especially significant among students who will enhance Skidmore’s diversity. Applications are up from international students as well as domestic students who self-identify as students of color.
The expected size of the Class of 2020 is 675 including 35 to 40 students who will choose to begin their Skidmore experiences in Skidmore’s First-Year London Program.
“We look forward to getting to know all of our applicants in the weeks ahead and welcoming those we believe would be a great fit to Skidmore’s strong community,” said Bates.
Regular decision letters will be mailed in late March. Accepted students have until May 1 to commit.
