Emmy Shea '10 featured in 'New Balance' campaign

October 10, 2016

Athletics apparel company New Balance is celebrating everyday athletes who defy expectations in its new campaign, Untold Athlete Stories. Emmy Shea ’10, who was captain of the Skidmore polo team and a studio art major, carved a niche for herself in the boxing world.

At 5' 1", Shea doesn’t fit the mold for a typical boxer. But Shea is used to breaking the mold. “People think I’m crazy,” she says in the New Balance ad. “They thought I was crazy for riding horses. They thought I was crazy for pursuing art. The boxing is just the icing on the cake.”

Shea is a contemporary artist and photographer in Pennsylvania. In June 2016 she was awarded the SACI Jules Maidoff Award for the Best Student Artwork. She remains an active alumna and is still in contact with Art Department faculty.
