Game, set, match! Two Thoroughbred teams take home titles

May 10, 2021

Skidmore’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have each clinched Liberty League championships, advancing to the upcoming NCAA tournaments.

The dual victories — the women’s team won 5-1 against Vassar and the men shut out RPI 5-0 — came at the end of seasons and an academic year shaped by COVID-19.

“This is a moment of celebration for our tennis players but also for all our student-athletes, who worked hard, never giving up despite all the challenges of the past year,” said Gail Cummings-Danson, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of athletics.

Women clinch 10th consecutive title

After winning a ninth straight title in 2019 only to have the 2020 season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the top-seeded women’s tennis team resumed their unprecedented title run with a 10th consecutive Liberty League championship, defeating second-seeded Vassar on Saturday, May 8.
