In order for us to have a successful semester there will
be some ground rules. Do not write in your books. This practice
encourages you to memorize translations and not to learn the
Greek. Also do not read a written out translation. Make notes
on vocabulary you do not know or grammatical points you want
to refer to but translate from your Greek text. Attendance
is critical in language classes especially those which are
small. Everyone must come to class every time and must be
prepared to translate. If everyone contributes in the classroom
we will be able to read Greek and learn about the philosophy
of Socrates through Plato. To help us in this endeavor there
will be outside readings in English on topics such as philosophy
and education.
