Welcome to Unit Five. This unit covers the formation of complex adjectives from (chiefly) Latin roots and suffixes.

The following topics are addressed:

• how Latin (and some Greek) nouns become adjectives in English,
• the addition of special adjective suffixes to Latin roots,
• the usage of these suffixes, and
• the rules under which the new adjectives enter English.

After reading Unit 5, students whould be able to identify and to generate English adjectives that have the roots of Greek and Latin nouns.
