90:  Served, when 16 years old, under Pompeius Strabo (the father of Pompey the Great) in the Social War, in which non-citizen Italians rebelled against Rome.

52-49:   According to Plutarch (Cicero 36, 37), while governor of Cilicia he directed a military campaign which brought peace to that province, and was saluted by his soldiers as "Imperator." Upon his return to Rome, the Senate voted him a supplicatio, a kind of triumphal procession.  However, Cicero himself was not known for possessing extraordinary courage.
