The Senate grants him the senatus consultum ultimum, "the ultimate
decree of the Senate," giving him broad authority to deal with the Catilinarian
conspiracy. For his actions, he is declared pater patriae,
or "Father of the Fatherland".

Cicero's enemies connive to bring prosecution against him for his actions
in 63. He leaves for northern Greece before he can be officially exiled
(a second, most likely unconstitutional bill declares him an exile).
57:
By a law of the people, Cicero is recalled in August and is warmly welcomed
in Italy and Rome.

Cicero is invited by the Triumvirate to join them, but declines to do so.
