Research Paper

The semester project on writing a research paper provides you with the opportunity to focus your interests on some aspect of Petronius' novel and its social and literary context. You will design the thesis of your paper, conduct the research, present your results and hand in a rough and then final draft of your 3000-word paper. You have considerable latitude in what type of paper you design, and you may choose from a wide array of literary and socio-historical topics.

Schedule

You will launch this project directly after the midterm (scheduled for Monday, October 21st), although I encourage you to begin collecting materials before then. Once the midterm is over, you will want to move full-steam ahead on your research and have all of the necessary tools in place to help you do so. The critical dates follow:
Oct. 30 Complete selection of topic
Typed topic statement due
Oct. 30-Nov. 1 Meet with Prof. Arnush to discuss the topic
Nov. 11

Hand in bibliography which outlines the tools you will use (visit the Readings webpage for a list of books on reserve in Scribner Library and photocopied articles in the Classics Department)

Dec. 2 Rough draft of paper due
Dec. 9, 11 Final presentation of paper
