Mey
yea[h] do[g]
It<’>s
all good!
- These two pieces of graffiti were found on the 3rd
floor entrance of the left side stairwell of the Kimball Residence Hall
- The specific author is unknown, however, it is fairly
safe to assume that a Skidmore student (age 17-23) did these and it is
likely that they lived in Kimball.
- The intended audience would have been other Skidmore
students. It would not have been
intended for any other person coming into the dorm because of it’s
location in one of the auxiliary stairwells.
- There is no iconography or imagery included
- Analyzing the graffiti required filling in the faded
parts of the above graffito and trying to decide whether the first word is
Mey of Hey. If it is Mey it might
just mean something along the lines of blah or is being used in an
excitatory of celebratory way. If
it was meant to be Hey then the author was probably in a rush and it was
most likely put there to catch the attention of the viewer. One also needs to understand that the
term dog is slang for friend and that the author is not in any way
referring to the canine species. The second graffito required less work
even though neither was difficult to decipher. The “its” should have been it’s as all good did belong to it
but that it is all good. However,
this would not confuse the reader, as it is a mistake often made by
anyone. Moreover, the phrase it’s
all good is well know to mean that everything is all right. The general identities of the authors
were easily discerned because the graffiti are located on a college campus
as was the intended audience. Both
graffiti were written with markers one in orange and one in red/pink, this
fact could suggest that the author did not just take a marker out of
his/her bag and write one day but that they went and got a colored marker
for this purpose but that is not certain and therefore nothing can be
assumed.
- These answers illustrate the inane nature of the
writings. They were either written
because the authors were bored or because they thought it would be funny.
