Class participation involves more than just attendance. It consists of attending class on time, participating in drills, games, and discussions, and keeping pace with the rest of the class. Classroom work is a requirement, not an option. You may take 3 absences from the classroom during the semester without penalty — no questions asked, no explanation necessary. After three absences, each absence will lower the participation portion by one full letter grade (i.e. 2% off your final grade).
For almost every class, you will be asked to prepare a translation assignment, from Latin to English or vice versa. Even if we go over this assignment in class, I will collect it at the end of each session. You're free to correct your work as we go over it, but I also want to see your original answers. For this reason, all homework must be typed, unless you make special arrangements with me beforehand.
There will be at least one short (c. 15 min.) quiz on vocabulary and grammar each week, usually on Tuesday.
There will be 2 exams, a midterm and a final. The midterm will be given in class on Thursday, October 20. The final is scheduled for Monday, December 19 at 1:30. Each exam is worth 20% of your grade.
