In this course, students continue their acquisition of Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary by reading selections from the first extant Latin novel, Petronius' Satyricon. We shall devote some time to discussing the novel and the social and cultural issues it raises.

Students in Classics 210, Petronius' Satyricon will:

• review intermediate Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary,
• become more proficient readers and interpreters of Latin prose, and
• read Petronius' novel in its social, historical, and literary context.

Furthermore, students will acquire universal skills of analysis and critical thinking, and will communicate these skills both in class and in written exercises.
