On our third day in Athens, we departed in the morning for southern Attica
by driving along the coast road. When we reached the tip we arrived at
the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. Perched on top of a promontory with
a commanding view of the wine-dark sea, the temple is a classic example
of Doric architecture. After we toured the temple we had lunch and spent
the afternoon at the nearby beach.
