The duo was born when Evan, while working as a graphic designer in Brooklyn, bumped into former roommate Mike Stroud ’02 and the pair began to experiment with “half-joke, kind of baroque bad songs.” After posting their work on a Web site associated with Audio Dregs—a Portland, OR, indie label that is headed by Evan’s brother Eric Mast ’96 (who performs under the moniker E*Rock)—they began to get serious about their music.
A self-titled debut CD was released by XL Recordings in 2004, followed by another disk and, most recently, last year’s LP3, a collection featuring vintage keyboards.
