Brianna Logan '20 knows the importance of connecting. 

Brianna was born in Brooklyn, and then spent childhood in Trinidad and Tobago.  Now at Skidmore as an international affairs major,  Brianna is pursuing a business minor and serves as Vice President of Public Relations for Women in Business (WIB). With a dream job to one day work for the United Nations, Brianna is eager to connect with professionals and explore working for non-governmental organizations.  Skidmore's Career Advisor Network has been a great tool to do that. 

"I love using the Career Advisor Network," said Brianna. "Through this platform, I was able to connect with an alum who also majored in International Affairs while at Skidmore.  After connecting, she informed me about a position that relates to my interests."

So what IS the Career Advisor Network? 

Now hosted on a platform called People Grove, the network is a powerful tool for both current students and alumni.  By joining the network, alumni agree that they are okay with others in the Skidmore community reaching out to them for advice.  The new site, launched September 2018, already has nearly 600 alumni who have created new career advisor profiles. 

"I tell students if you're uncomfortable with networking, this is a great first step.  Alumni on the platform have already volunteered to connect with students," said Lauren Sisson, Career Counselor for the Arts & Design and Media & Communications communities.  "They're waiting for you!"

Students can search for advisors based on career communities, industry experience, location, and more. 

"I am grateful to have a platform where I can interact with alum in my career fields of interests to learn more about their roles, gain valuable advice on choosing a career, and receive assistance with editing my resume and cover letter," said Brianna. "The fact that these alums have been in my shoes makes the Career Advisory Network beneficial.  The advice they will provide can assure me that I will eventually figure out my ideal career path post-graduation."
