Management & Business major, student athlete, and resident assistant, Haley English '19, shares top reasons students should go to Career Jam on October 19.  Haley additionally works at Skidmore's Career Development Center as an Employer Relations assistant.

Here's why Haley thinks you should stop by this awesome event:

1. Networking

Career Jam is the largest on-campus networking event of the year at Skidmore. It is held during Celebration Weekend on Friday from 3-5 PM so parents and alumni can participate in the event as mentors while still enjoying the rest of the weekend in Saratoga with family and friends.  For students,  getting to know these professionals can really pay off. LinkedIn reported that 70% of of their users got hired at a company where they had at least one connection. Who knows who you will connect with at Career Jam?  It's worth dropping by.

2. Learn more about your career path

Going to Career Jam is a great way to explore career paths.  At this event, you can ask what steps you need to take to get to your dream job. For some students, this could mean additional studies or applying to medical school,  and for others it could be getting a local internship.

Karly Fishkin '19, an exercise science major, attended Career Jam last year because she was interested in finding more information about schools for pre-med and nursing.  After speaking with mentors at the event, she felt more confident about her plans for the future.

3. Help to decide which career you want to pursue

Meeting professionals with experience and stories in a specific field can impact your career decisions and aspirations. If you are unsure about what you would like to do post-grad, professionals from a wide variety of careers will help you explore the abundance of opportunities available.

4. Receive advice from professionals

Sarah Gowan '19, a neuroscience major, went into Career Jam knowing she wanted to become a therapist but not sure how to excel in that field. After talking to a doctor at Career Jam last year, she got great tips on how to be successful.  She will be attending Career Jam again this year in hopes of gaining more insight and advice!

5. Great way to make your parents happy

It's true!  Per his mother’s request, Joe Morrissey '20, a managment and business major, attended last year's Career Jam. To his surprise, he met professionals from companies he was interested in working for, and is still in contact with them today. It was well worth his time, and his family is proud!

Don't miss Career Jam 2018 held October 19 in Murray Aikins from 3-5PM.  Students can drop by or attend for the entire duration of the event.  All attendees are eligible to receive a free, professional headshot to use on their LinkedIn profiles.
