CIC: What to Expect in New York City

November 15, 2018
by Haley English & Paige Durrant, Employer Relations Assistants

CIC NYWhy attend this year’s NYC Career and Internship Connections?

Career and Internship Connections (CIC) is an annual recruiting event attended by students from 17 top schools, including Skidmore. Approximately 100 employers regularly attend the program each year to connect with prospective employees and interns. This day is designed as a way for students to network and interview with companies that may not be recruiting on campus.

There are two parts to the day: the career fair in the morning, and an interviewing portion in the afternoon.

Here are the specifics:

Date: Tuesday, January 8, 2019

Location: New York City Hilton

Career Fair: 9 am – 12 pm

Pre-select interviews: 12:30 pm – 5 pm

For pre-select interviews, you must register and apply to each individual company of your interest. Once registered, you will receive emails from CIC with information concerning any new companies that will be attending.

The deadline to apply for positions offering interviews is November 30.

Students must apply in advance via Handshake to have a chance of being selected for interviews. It’s coming quick!

Fun Fact: In past years, Skidmore students have gained internships and jobs from CIC.

More about how the day works:

CIC is held over winter break in New York City. This year, the event will be held at the New York Hilton Midtown.

The morning starts at 8am with registration for attending students. From 9am to 12pm, all students will have the opportunity to connect with potential employers for internships and full time jobs during the career fair. The morning provides a great opportunity for students to have face-to-face connection with company recruiters and learn more about the employers and what they have to offer. There’s even a possibility that an employer will offer a student an afternoon interview if a good connection is made during the career fair. (In the past approximately 30% of students that attended the morning career fair have received an invitation to interview in the afternoon).

Be sure to bring copies of your resumes to distribute while interacting with these potential employers!

Transportation, lodging, and food are the student’s responsibility. We suggest going with friends to share the costs associated with travel.

Please check out this link to to review participating company descriptions, along with opportunities being offered.

How to Sign Up:

  • Go to your Handshake account.
  • Under the events tab, at the top of the page search for “Find Career Fairs.” Here you will find "NYC Career and Internship Connections 2019."
  • Search through employers attending. Once you have found companies that interest you, head to their employer pages to apply for any interviewing opportunities being offered. Also search for “NYC-CIC” in the Jobs tab in Handshake to explore interviewing opportunities.
  • Students must complete applications by November 30th to be considered for interviews. As a reminder, all students can attend the morning career fair.

Good luck, and act soon! If you have any questions regarding this event, please reach out to Penny Loretto in the Career Development Center.
