Skidmore Career Advisor, Hon. Elizabeth S. Stong

Skidmore's Career Advisor Network is a Skidmore-exclusive database made up of alumni, and also many parents of Skidmore students,   eager to share their career experiences and advice.

Career Counselor Penny Loretto recently spoke with Skidmore parent, Hon. Elizabeth S. Stong of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
in the Eastern District of New York.

Working out of Brooklyn, Judge Stong is an excellent resource for students who identify with the Government & Law career community.

Penny:  Thank you for being part of the Career Advisor Network.  As a Skidmore parent, why have you elected to take on the role as a career advisor?

Elizabeth: It's important to me to be a career advisor at Skidmore because so many of the Skidmore students that I have met are committed to using their talents and energy to make a difference in the world, but aren't exactly sure where to begin.  I look forward to sharing the lessons that I have learned during my career in the legal profession, as a law clerk, a lawyer in private practice, and now as a federal judge.

Penny: Why should Skidmore students interested in government and/or law reach out to you?

Elizabeth: Skidmore students interested in careers in the legal profession, the justice system, and international rule of law work should reach out to me if they have questions about the practical and real-life aspects of these fields and career paths.

Penny: Last question!  What is your favorite piece of career advice?

Elizabeth: You will never have more career satisfaction than you expect - so set your expectations high!  And if you have a dream job or field of work, don't let anyone discourage you from pursuing it - as my mom once said to me a long time ago, "they have to pick someone, it might as well be you!"

Thank you to Judge Stong and all of our awesome career advisors!  If you're a Skidmore alumnus or parent and wish to serve as an advisor, please request an account here

Skidmore's career counselors encourage all students to take advantage of exploring the network.  Students can sign in to activate their account using their Skidmore login credentials.
