1. Masters of Media

Many Skidmore students apply their liberal arts backgrounds to careers in media and entertainment. Career Jam allows students to rub elbows with industry influencers, including a senior editor at Rolling Stone, a Vice President at Thirty Tigers Entertainment Co., and a Technical Director of Pixar Animation Studios, among others.

2. STEM Connections

Career Jam 2019 has a record number of mentors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Professionals from the Jackson Labratory, Epic Software, The Raytheon Company, and Google, to name a few, will all be on-hand to offer Skidmore students career tips.

3.  Make an Impact

Seeking a career in Sustainability?  Brendan Woodruff, of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, regularly recruits interns.  Eliot Cresswell of the Peace Corps will also be at Career Jam discussing volunteer possibilities.  Additional mentors in environmental sciences and education are eager to talk with students and be of help in their career journeys.

4. Fireside Chats with EY

As America’s talent development consulting director at EY, alumni board member Amy Munichiello '94, has led successful recruitment processes between Skidmore and the firm.   She's a great person to know, and this year, students can avoid the lines to talk with her and attend one of four, exclusive fireside chats which will take place during Career Jam.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

5. Free LinkedIn Headshots

Looking to elevate a LinkedIn profile?  Career Jam features a professional photographer taking FREE headshot photos throughout the event.  Students receive a link to access their complimentary photos after the event.

6. Local Internship Connections

Nearby employers like Ayco, a Goldman Sachs company, Beekman 1802, Proctors, Black Dog Designs, Saratoga Living magazine, Currie Associates, Fingerpaint Marketing, and more, will be in attendance at Career Jam to talk with students about internships. These connections can lead to real opportunities to build your resume!

7. Research Opportunities

Career Jam 2019 will host a record number of medical providers.  Dr. Jacqueline Gottlieb of Columbia University is interested in talking with juniors or seniors with strong interest in psychology and neuroscience.  Beth Costine-Bartell, Ph.D., of Harvard University/Mass General Hospital regularly recruits research assistants and clinical research coordinators.  Additional mentors from Albany Medical College and Thomas Jefferson University, among others, will be at Career Jam and have indicated they recruit research assistants.

8. Friends in Finance

Connections matter when it comes to competitive finance internships and jobs.  Students at Career Jam can meet professionals from Santander, Wells Fargo, Northwestern Mutual, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, to name a few.

9. Legal Liasions

Is law school right for you?  Are you interested in shadowing or interning at a law office?  Help answer these questions with the help of several attorneys who are serving as mentors at this year's Career Jam.  In past years, students' connections with lawyers have resulted in summer internships.

10. It's Family!

With Career Jam kicking off Celebration Weekend, many mentors are Skidmore parents eager to help students succeed. 

Career Jam may feature a United States bankruptcy judge, a neurosurgeon, and the executive director of The Recording Company-- but they also happen to be parents of Skidmore peers!  They're excited to talk with students about career goals.
