Skidmore-Saratoga Memory Project

Community Partner Grants

MDOCS has limited funds to support community documentarians, institutions and organizations working with the Skidmore-Saratoga Memory Project or similar partnership. Grants of up to $250 will be offered to support collaborative projects to offset costs of (for example) printing or framing photographs for a public exhibit, restoration of a historical document on exhibit or needed for film or transportation to reach an interview subject. It is not intended to purchase equipment for documentary-making.

These grants are meant to benefit community partners—those who open their exhibit spaces, archives and communities to documentarian projects. Therefore it is the community partner who will request the grant. There is no application form. 

Application: Community partners should send an email addressed to MDOCS Community Grants Committee to mooredocs@skidmore.edu with a brief statement (up to 500 words) explaining the documentary collaboration between Skidmore students/faculty and the community partner, the amount of funding requested with justification and the timeframe for use. The proposal should indicate the name, title and relationship with the Skidmore community member (faculty, student, staff) and that person's contact information. The Advisory Board may request a meeting with the partners to discuss the proposal.

Follow-up: When the project is complete, MDOCS requests a brief report, ideally including a visual and written record of the activity (photo, film clip, Facebook post, etc.).

Deadlines: There is a rolling deadline.

• Requests will be accepted on an as-received basis and considered in the first week of each month (September–May).
• Applications must be received no later than the 25th of each month to be ensured consideration by the following month. 
• The MDOCS Grants Committee will inform applicants whether their project can be funded no later than mid-month
• In other words: Application received September 10 will be considered the first week of October, with an answer by October 15.

Alternate resources for Skidmore community members: We encourage students to apply for Student Opportunity Funds and faculty to seek out opportunities from Project VIS, the VPAA-DOF or the Center for Leadership in Teaching and Learning.
