The Hard Problem

Open Air

Directed by Adam Sekuler

At the only open-air cremation site in the United States, with a torch at an altar on a side of a mountain, surrounded by ninety people, a family lights the fire that consumes their loved ones body, sending billows of smoke into the blue sky of dawn. (22 min)

Any More a Portion

Directed by Sarah Friedland

Any More a Portion is part of HERE AFTER Shorts, an ongoing collection of short films produced from around the country on the evolving ways that the US memorializes its lives. This short interactive film explores Heart Island, New York city's potters field –– burial ground for the forgotten, unclaimed, unknown, and those unable to have a choice where their loved ones are buried. (5 min)

Memories of a Penitent Heart

Directed by Cecilia Aldarondo

Excerpts from the award-winning documentary film that cracks open a Pandora’s box of unresolved family drama. Originating from filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo’s suspicion that there was something ugly in her family’s past, the film charts her excavation of the buried family conflict around her uncle Miguel’s death, and her search for Miguel’s partner Robert a generation later. (10 min)

My Life In Google

Directed by Adam Sekuler

My Life In Google uses the archives of Google Earth, Street View and Maps to create a personal memoir landscape film/live performance. Mixed with songs, sounds sourced from the web, and a live reading of a personal memoir/essay, the work examines themes of memory, nostalgia, and technology in order to geo-locate a descriptive genealogy, historical non-fiction, and travel journal of a life. (24 min)

The Hard Problem

Sound by Adam Tinkle with Kim Stanley Robinson and Marina Abramović

A collaborative project with performance artist Marina Abramović and science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson based on a series of interactions between a story that Robinson was writing about a multi-generational spaceship heading to another star, and the performance art gestures of Abramović’s that are a journey into our inner self. The audio tracks were mixed and choreographed by Adam Tinkle into the podcast: The Hard Problem: An Audio Voyage. (40 min)
