Hayat Week to Celebrate Richness of Middle East, South Asian Cultures
Hayat, a student organization dedicated to sharing the culture and traditions of the
Middle East and South Asia, is sponsoring a week of events to do just that. The special
events, all free, are scheduled from Oct. 23 to 29 to celebrate the richness of Middle
and South Eastern cultures.
The schedule includes the following:
Monday, Oct. 23, 6 to 9 p.m., Falstaff's - Diwali Puja (prayer) and Bhajan Ceremony
A Hindu prayer service followed by chanting of devotional songs and the distribution
of prasad (Indian sweets).
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m., Intercultural Center - Sikh Awareness Workshop
A Sikh volunteer will participate in a discussion about the religion and its adherents.
The evening also will feature the showing of a documentary film.
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2 to 5 p.m., Case Center - Henna and Indian Snacks Bazaar
Sale of ethnic snacks and henna tattoos
Thursday, Oct. 26, 6 to 8 p.m., Falstaff's - Ramadan Dinner
Free Ramadan dinner (kosher Indian food) to break the monthlong fast of Ramadan,
the Muslim holy month.
Throughout the week, art and photographs from South Asian and Middle Eastern regions
will be on exhibit in Case Center Gallery.
