Skidmore alumna Terry Fulmer new trustee

A 1976 graduate of Skidmore, Fulmer was the first nurse to serve as president of the Gerontological Society of America, and also the first nurse to be elected to the board of the American Geriatrics Society.
"With her boundless energy and concern for the well-being of others, Terry Fulmer is a wonderful representative of the many nursing graduates that Skidmore has produced over the years," said Suzanne Corbet Thomas '62, board chair. "Particularly as Skidmore charts the expansion of its programs in the sciences, the college will be well-served by her long experience and leadership in health care and education."
In addition to publishing over 150 papers and textbooks on the subject of geriatric care, Fulmer has served on many key panels and received numerous honors for her effort to impact nursing, especially when it comes to the elderly. Two of her nine books have received American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards.
Fulmer is credited with a 25 percent increase in enrollment at the NYU College of Nursing during her tenure. She also is responsible for the development of the Elder Assessment Instrument (EAI), a screening checklist for elder abuse that is currently used nationwide.
Fulmer has been an active Skidmore alumna, serving as secretary of the Alumni Board in the early 1980s and on the Friends of the President Committee in the 1990s. She is currently class fund chair and a member of the Alumni Awards Committee.
A trustee of the New York Academy of Medicine, Fulmer received both her master's and doctoral degrees from Boston College, and her Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Post Master's Certificate from New York University. She also completed a Brookdale National Fellowship at Columbia University.
Fulmer lives in Westchester with her husband, Keith, and their three children, Nina, Holly, and Sam.
