Activities

Gove Effinger, professor of mathematics, presented a lecture titled ?Encryption, Asymmetry, and Prime Numbers? Nov. 30 to the Siena College Mathematics Colloquium.

Regina Janes, professor of English, introduced a panel on ?Swift in Ireland? at the sixth annual Dublin Symposium on Jonathan Swift, held at the Saint Patrick's Cathedral Deanery, Dublin, Ireland, Oct. 19-20, 2007.

Robert Shorb, associate dean and director, Student Aid and Family Finance, is midway through his season of presenting financial aid workshops at the region?s high schools. The two-hour sessions provide information on how financial aid works, how to apply, the various types of programs available, and how to complete such forms as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the CSS Financial Aid PROFILE. To date he has presented at the following school districts: Bethlehem, Niskayuna, Ballston Spa, Troy, Queensbury, Glens Falls, and Hudson Falls. Still to come are Saratoga Springs, Schuylerville, Shenendehowa, South Glens Falls, Guilderland, Mechanicville, and Watervliet.

Publications

Erica Bastress-Dukehart, assistant professor of history and director, Law and Society Program, is the author of an article titled ?Sibling Conflict within Early Modern German Noble Families" published The Journal of Family History, Vol. 33, No. 1, January 2008.

Karen Kellogg, associate professor and director, Environmental Studies, recently had a paper accepted at the journal Marine Biology. Titled Claw allometry in green crabs, Carcinus maenas (L.): heterochely, handedness, and sex, the paper was co-written with colleagues at University of Massachusetts and the University of Pittsburgh. She was also interviewed for an article that appeared in the October 2007 issue of Energy Times titled ?Bad H2Omens.? The focus of the article is the status of the world?s freshwater supplies.

Reg Lilly, professor of philosophy, is the author of an article titled ?L?incapacit originaire de l thique heideggerienne,? which appeared in Cahiers philosophiques (Paris) in the special volume on Heidegger, politics, and philosophy.

Jeffrey O. Segrave, professor of exercise science and interim dean of special programs, is the author of ?Pietro Metastasio?s L?Olimpiade: A textual exegesis and an analysis of the role of L?Olympiade in Olympic Games history? in Journal of Olympic History, Vol. 15.

Robert Shorb, associate dean and director, Student Aid and Family Finance, participated in a recent round table discussion on the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which became effective Oct. 1. The discussion, sponsored by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, was published Nov. 19 on the NASFAA web site.
