Rep. Scott Murphy will visit Skidmore College on Friday, April 23, for a "Congress on Your Campus" program.

Murphy's visit is sponsored by the Skidmore Democrats.   He'll be outside the second floor of Case Center (or in the Spa if it rains) for about an hour, starting at 2:30 p.m.Murphy and members of his staff hope to hear members of the campus community voice concerns about local issues, what's going on in Washington, and his priorities in Congress.

"Hearing from the people I represent is a crucial component of my job as I work to help small businesses and create the environment necessary for job creation. As part of my focus on remaining open and transparent as your representative, I have visited all 137 towns in New York's 20thDistrict.  I look forward to visiting your community and hope to see you there," said the Congressman in a statement announcing his visit.

All members of the Skidmore community are welcome to attend the "Congress on Your Campus" event. Amy Bergstraesser '11, president of the Skidmore Democrats, said, "We're excited to have Rep. Murphy visit Skidmore for Congress on Your Campus.  He has done a lot for this campus and the Saratoga Springs community."

Murphy was elected to represent the 20th District of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives by a special election on March 31, 2009, following Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's appointment to the United States Senate.

A native of Columbia, Mo., Murphy moved to New York State after graduating from Harvard University. He started his first high-tech company while working out of his living room and spent the next decade building small businesses and creating jobs, founding and running several more companies. He also briefly worked as an aide to Governor Mel Carnahan and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Roger Wilson of Missouri.

Murphy is married to Jen Hogan, who grew up in Washington County next to her family's dairy farm.  They live in Glens Falls with their three children, Simone, Lux, and Duke.
