Award
Yacub Addy, lecturer in music, is one of nine people to receive the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts: a 2010 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship.
Activities
Skidmore's Department of Campus Safety hosted the 57 th annual conference of the Northeast Colleges and Universities Security Association (NCUSA) June 27-30 on campus. Approximately 150 people (including a number of Skidmore staff) representing 70 colleges and universities attended the conference. Famed pathologist Dr. Michael Baden was keynote speaker and sessions on a number of topics, including the Virginia Tech and Eastern Michigan University homicide investigations, compliance issues, and threat assessment, were presented. Dennis Conway, director of campus safety at Skidmore, is a director at large with NCUSA.
Catherine Golden, professor of English, gave an invited talk at the National Museum of Dance June 27. Titled "First Position Relev : The Penny Black and the Rise of the Postage Stamp," the talk related to a new exhibition at the museum titled Postage Paid: Dance Stamps from Around the World.
Publications/Exhibitions
Deb Hall, associate professor of art, has work included in the 53 rd Chautauqua Exhibition of Contemporary Art at the Strohl Art Center, the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, N.Y., through July 20. Kim Foster curated the national juried exhibition.
Steve Stern, professor of English, has received a number of positive reviews for his new book, The Frozen Rabbi, including the following: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Jerusalem Post. The author gave a reading in St. Louis July 7 and returns to Memphis to read on July 13.
