John Brueggemann, Quadracci Professor of Social Responsibility and professor of sociology, is the author of a new book titled Rich, Free and Miserable: The Failure of Success in America, (Roman and Littlefield, 2010). He was featured in two recent stories:   "Book looks at tie between success, happiness," in The Sunday Gazette, Aug. 8; and "Personal growth becomes a brand to sell," an opinion column by Sara Foss in The Daily Gazette, Aug. 7.

David Domozych, professor of biology, is a co-author of a paper titled "How have plant cell walls evolved?" in the June 2010 issue of Plant Physiology, Vol. 153. His co-authors are Iben Sorensen of Cornell University and William Willats of the University of Copenhagen.  This paper discusses the evolutionary origin and significance of plant cell walls from primitive green algae to land plants. Microscopy images derived from this paper were used for the June cover of the journal. The images were obtained using the confocal and transmission electron microscopes of the Skidmore Microscopy Imaging Center (SMIC). Plant Physiology is the most-frequently cited plant journal in the world.

Domozych is also co-author of paper titled "Composition of extracellular polymer substances from periphyton assemblages in the Florida Everglades" in the June issue of the Journal of Phycology, Vol. 46.  This paper deals with an ecological survey of algae found in the Everglades, the complex polysaccharides that they secrete and the significance of the polysaccharides to food chains. Co-authors included researchers from the University of Florida, the Southwest Florida Water management District and Michigan Technological University.

Domozych co-authored a third paper titled "Investigating molecular mechanisms underlying the evolution of land plants," delivered at "Plant Biology 2010" held in Montreal from July 31-Aug. 4. Co-authors included Iben Sorensen, Jocelyn Rose, Jeffrey Doyle and Zhangjun Fei of Cornell University and William Willats of the University of Copenhagen.
