Award
Addy honored Sept. 22 by the National Endowment for the Arts
Yacub Addy, lecturer in music, accepted his NEA National Heritage Fellowship award from National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman at a Sept. 22 awards ceremony at the Library of Congress. The NEA National Heritage Fellowships are the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. Landesman said, "A master of the traditional Ga music, Yacub Addy is a generous mentor of aspiring drummers as well as a collaborator with jazz and popular musicians, who has created new works that speak to issues of social and cultural relevance today." Jay Rogoff, lecturer in English, gave a reading Sept. 21 at the Saratoga Arts Center. Sponsored by the Adirondack Center for Writing, the event was part of its annual Reading Series.
Publications
Catherine Golden, professor of English, has a new entry on her blog, posted on the site of the Smithsonian Institution's National Postal Museum. In addition, a paper she presented last year at the Smithsonian's Postal History conference and titled "Why is a Raven Like a Writing Desk?': Post Office Reform, Collectible Commodities, and Victorian Culture," is published inThe Winton M. Blount Postal History Symposia Select Papers, 2006-2009.
