Activities

Linda Simon, professor of English, participated in a Nov. 10 panel at the University at Albany to inaugurate a fall and spring festival: "At the Gateway to Modernism: A Celebration of William and Henry James." The celebration, funded by the New York Council for the Humanities, includes community reads, stage performances, lectures, and tour of Albany Rural Cemetery where the James family's ancestors are buried. Henry James, Sr., the famous brothers' father, was a student at Albany Academy, one of the co-sponsors of the festival.

Publications & Exhibitions

Linda Simon's essay "Publishing History and Contemporary Reception" is included in Henry James in Context, edited by David McWhirter (Cambridge University Press), a compendium of 41 scholarly essays offering historical and cultural context for understanding James.

Joanne Vella, associate professor of art, has two new paintings on view in the SACI, Studio Art Centers International, SACI Gallery, via Sant'Antonino, Florence, Italy, which opened Oct. 28 for the inauguration celebration of the new Jules Maidoff Palazzo for the Visual Arts, Via Sant'Egidio, on Nov. 19, 2010.
