Get ready for the Big Green Scream!

Skidmore will host the Big Green Scream this Saturday, Feb. 19, when the men's and women's basketball teams take on Clarkson at the Williamson Sports Center. The women's game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m. There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the day, including the chance to win a free 32-inch Sony Bravia flat screen TV.

Admission to the games is free and the first 150 people through the door at each game will receive a free T-shirt. All contests and raffles are free to enter and you must be present to win the prizes.

The games will be the final regular-season home contests for both teams and the seniors for each team will be honored before their games. Come out and support your Thoroughbreds as they make their final push toward postseason play.

Event sponsors are the Skidmore Athletic Department, Office of Residential Life, Sustainable Skidmore, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Environmental Action Club, and Friends Of Skidmore Athletics.

Weekly Recap

Women's basketball went 1-1 this week this week, picking up a win at RPI and falling to Vassar. In the RPI game, junior Megan Gaugler (Amsterdam, N.Y.) led four Thoroughbreds in double figures, scoring a game-high 22 points while classmate Christina Gargiso (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and freshman Jordan Wartts (St. Louis, Mo.) finished with 12 and 10, respectively. In Saturday's loss at Vassar, Gaugler scored 13 points, Gargiso had 11, and sophomore Logan Frederick (Arlington, Va.) finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Skidmore is now 11-11 overall, 7-5 league, and hosts St. Lawrence at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.

Men's basketball also finished the week at 1-1, falling at RPI on Friday and winning at Vassar on Saturday. At RPI, juniors Melvis Langyintuo (Tamale, Ghana), Brian Lowry (West Hartford, Conn.), and Terron Vicatoria (Albany, N.Y.) each scored 10 points. In the Vassar game, senior Jeff Altimar (Medfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 18 points and Victoria finished with four points, five assists, and eight rebounds to help lead the Thoroughbreds to a 60-46 win and improve to 8-4 in the league (14-9 overall). The team hosts St. Lawrence at 8 p.m. Friday.

Ice hockey posted a 1-1 record this week, dominating St. Michael's Friday before falling to No. 4 Norwich Saturday. Friday, freshman Aaron Beck (Maribel, Wisc.) scored two goals and junior Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J.) made 27 saves to lead Skidmore to a 7-0 win. Against Norwich, freshman Vlad Gavrik (Kharkiv, Ukraine) scored and junior Andrew Ross (McKinney, Texas) finished with 23 saves in goal. The Thoroughbreds' record now stands at 9-12-2 overall (8-7-2 in the league); they wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games at Williams and Middlebury this weekend.

Men's swimming and diving finished second in the Vassar Sprint Invite this weekend. Senior Stephen Lento (Cincinnati, Ohio) was a triple winner for the Thoroughbreds, taking first in the 400 IM, 200 Free and as part of the 200 Free Relay. Other winners for Skidmore included sophomore Jesse Adler (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in the 100 Back, freshman Peter Quattromani (Providence, R.I.) in the 500 Free and senior Rob Zilinyi (Fairfield, Conn.) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Both the men's and women's team will return to action this week at the UNYSCSA Championships in Rochester, N.Y. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
