Activities

Linda Simon, professor of English, gave a Noon Book Talk April 7 at the Colonie Library, part of "The James Brothers: Reading at the Gateway to Modernism" program taking place at SUNY and other venues. Her presentation focused on William James.

Michael Sposili, director of alumni affairs and college events, has been elected to a term as secretary of the Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association. Officers and new board members were elected at the DBA's recent annual meeting.

Publications

Gordon Thompson, professor of music, has contributed two entries forApril to his blog. One, on the Beatles' initial recording session for their album, Revolver, is titled "'Tomorrow  Never Knows': The Beatles Sample the Future,"and celebrates the 45thanniversary of this landmark recording. The other is titled  "'The Start of a Solo Career': Paul McCartney, 10 April 1970."  The blog ishosted on Oxford University Press website. In addition, he was interviewed by Lauren Appelwick for "Oxford Comment" on the Beatles and the '60s counterculture. The interview is available on podcast.

In the News

Jim Kennelly, director of international affairs and professor of management and business, co-wrote (with Finbarr Bradley) "Cultural identity key to recovery," published April 6 in the Irish Examiner. In addition, Kennelly was interviewed for a story on the prospects for the Irish economy in a report that aired April 8 on RTE.ie, Ireland National Television and Radio. The interview took place April 7 at Lehigh University, where Kennelly attended a conference on the Irish economy.
