Busy week of league action for spring athletes

Baseball posted a 6-1 record this week, victorious over Middlebury, Southern Vermont, and Union. At Middlebury, junior Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.) earned the win and went 3-for-5 to help lead Skidmore to a 6-0 win. Against Southern Vermont, senior pitcher Nick (Tenafly, N.J.) became the program's all-time winningest pitcher behind back-to-back home runs from freshmen Rob Safir (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Mo Kreitenberg (Los Alamitos, Calif.). Over the weekend, the Thoroughbreds returned to league play as they went 3-1 against Union. Laracuente won Saturday's opener, improving to 7-0 on the season; on Sunday senior Trevor Brucato (Stamford, Conn.) tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Skidmore to a 1-0 win. The Thoroughbreds are now 5-5 in the Liberty League and 18-6 overall. They return to action Friday at Clarkson.
Women's lacrosse went 2-1 on the week, beating league competitors Rochester and William Smith. Senior Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, N.Y.), with five goals and two assists, became the Thoroughbreds' single-season scoring leader in Saturday's 16-5 drubbing of Rochester. Against William Smith, eight different players scored a goal and junior goalie Rachel Klein (Far Hills, N.J.) stopped 13 shots. Skidmore improved to 9-4 on the season and 5-2 in the league. The team travels to Amherst Tuesday for a non-league game.
Men's lacrosse was 1-1 on the week, falling in double overtime to No. 11 Middlebury and earning a decisive 12-4 victory Saturday over Union. Against Middlebury, the 12 th-ranked Thoroughbreds got three goals from senior Matt Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomore Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), while junior goalie Connor Dowling (Darien, Conn.) finished with 19 saves. Against Union Holden scored four times, while sophomore Mike Perlow (Briarcliff, N.Y.) had three goals and an assist. Dowling finished with 14 saves in goal. Skidmore is now 9-2 overall and remains undefeated in league play with a 3-0 mark; the team next plays Wednesday at Hamilton.
Softball had a 1-3 week, earning a 4-2 win over MCLA. Against MCLA senior Charlotte Evans (Richland, Mich.) blasted a game-winning grand slam and sophomore pitcher Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) earned the win. In game two of the doubleheader, sophomore Julia Schwartz (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and freshman Katie Sorochka (Jackson, N.J.) each hit solo home runs. The Thoroughbreds are now 10-12 on the season and 0-2 in the league; they return to action April 23 at Union.
Women's tennis posted a 0-2 record this week, falling to No. 2 Williams Saturday and MIT Sunday. Freshman Sophia Bryan-Ajania (San Rafael, Calif.) teamed up with classmate Keirsten Sires (Easton, Conn.) to win at number-three doubles against MIT, while freshmen Molly Nolan (Montauk, N.Y.) and Robyn Baird (Potomac, Md.) earned wins in singles action.
