Cummings-Danson

Gail Cummings-Danson, director of athletics, will be recognized as a "Woman of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York on Thursday, May 19, in a dinner at Saratoga National. Cummings-Danson has been named a "Distinguished Trailblazer" by the Girl Scout Council for her "proven track record of reaching ambitious or unconventional goals demonstrated by upward career mobility, steady growth and leadership skills. She is willing to take risks, inspires and motivates others. She has 'broken glass ceilings,' overcome and excelled under extreme challenges and demonstrated perseverance."

Anne Palamountain, former first lady of Skidmore, also will be recognized as a Woman of Distinction for outstanding achievement at the same event. Bill Jones, sports information manager, will receive the Pete Nevins Award from the Eastern Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association at the organization's 56 th annual awards dinner June 9 in Rochester, N.Y. The Pete Nevins Award (named in honor of the longtime East Stroudsburg University sports information director who died in 2007) recognizes an individual's advancement of the field of athletic communications and advocacy for intercollegiate athletics. The award recipient must have served at least 25 years in the sports information field. Jones, who began his sports information career while a student at SUNY College at Plattsburgh, later served as Plattsburgh's SID before joining the Skidmore community in 1984. He has been a member of ECAC-SIDA and the College Sports Information Directors of American for 27 years and in 2004, was ECAC-SIDA's Irving T. Marsh College Division Award winner for contributions to the field. He is a past president of ECAC-SIDA and hosted the group's annual workshop in Saratoga Springs in 1995, 2001, and 2008.

Activities

Mary DiSanto-Rose, associate professor of dance, performed May 14 and 15 at the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, N.Y., in a program titled "Isadora Duncan in the Time of Spring." Alumna Jeanne Bresciani '72 and 12 Skidmore student dancers in the program joined her.

Deb Hall, associate professor of art, was featured in a featured story titled "Creatures of 'Habit'," about her new solo exhibition at the Tom Myott Gallery in Glens Falls. The story was published in the May 10 edition of the Glens Falls Post-Star.

Penny Loretto, interim director of career services, was featured in a story titled "Grades facing slightly easier market," published May 15 in The Sunday Gazette.
