Suparna Rajaram, an expert in the study of memory and amnesia, will deliver a research talk titled "Memory in Social Context: Does Collaboration Help or Hurt Memory?" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Davis Auditorium, Palamountain Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Rajaram will discuss her research on the costs and benefits of remembering together, highlighting the cognitive mechanisms contributing to these collaborative effects. Her investigation of the social aspects of remembering draws on laboratory studies and is richly informed by an interdisciplinary focus. Her research has intriguing implications for how individual identities and collective histories are shaped.

A cognitive psychologist, Dr. Rajaram is a professor of psychology at SUNY Stony Brook. She is also a fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science and of the Association for Psychological Science. Light refreshments will be available shortly before the talk, at 5:15 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by a NSF/RUI Grant, NSF/SUN, and the Psychology Department.
