The Department of Theater's fall Black Box production, Pilgrims of the Night by Len Jenkin , opens this week under the direction of Alma Becker.

Pilgrims of the Nightis set at a ferry landing on a stormy night. A rag-tag group of strangers arrives and to pass the time, each one tells or invents a story. Each story gets stranger and stranger. In Jenkin's personal style, this play revolves around a group of people in an extreme situation. The play is both bizarre and funny, tender and wise.

Director Becker said, "I am thrilled to direct my second Len Jenkin play at Skidmore. Jenkin is a master storyteller with a theatrical flare for the quirky and scintillating stories that rest in our American imagination. He mixes comedy and pathos, strangeness and the mundane to create this thought provoking, high-energy entertainment. The pilgrims of the title are all searchers for something missing in their lives. During the stormy night they share in a ferry terminal in the far north, the pilgrims discover their common need for love, connection, fulfillment and a longing for adventure."

Performances are Thursday through Tuesday, Oct. 20-25, in the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater. Curtain times are 8 p.m. daily during the week. A 2 p.m. matinee is also scheduled on Saturday, and the Sunday performance is limited to a 2 p.m. matinee.
